Waiting on Wednesday : The Rose and the Dagger by Renee Ahdieh

Expected Release Date : 3rd May, 2016

Sequel to : The Wrath and the Dawn

                               Author : Renee Ahdieh

                               Published by : Putnam Juvenile

After how The Wrath and the Dawn ended, I cannot wait for the second and last installment of this duology, by Renee Ahdieh. The Wrath and the Dawn is a retelling of One Thousand and One Nights and it tells the story of Shazi, who marries the monstrous boy-king (who keeps killing each wife at dawn every day) to avenge the murder of her best friend. However, she manages to remain alive past the dawn of her marriage day, and slowly, she comes to know her king. She realizes that he is not a monster, instead, a young boy tormented by secrets and a disastrous past. Thus begins an amazing romance, spilt secrets and attempts to save the life of the one you love.

The Rose and the Dagger continues the story of Shazi, [minor spoilers ahead] who is now estranged from her husband, and must fight her way back to him. Apparently, this book will involve a lot more magic, and I cannot wait.

Renee Ahdieh’s writing is good (nothing extraordinary) but it’s pretty good. I aboslutely loved the setting in the first book, novels with an Arabian setting hold a hidden charm for me. The characters are lovable people : Shazi, Khalid, Jalal, Despina, and I even like Tariq. And, Khalid. KHALID.

The story was well-woven, and good enough to keep me gripped and interested. I hope TRATD lives up to the hype, and is a good sequel to TWATD. I would be so majorly disappointed if this duology doesn’t wrap up well.

Tell me about which book you are waiting for?!
