Read-O-Rama (Round 7) and New To You Readathon Wrap-up!

Hi everyone! So, last week, from the 11th June to 17th of June, I participated in two readathons – Read-O-Rama (Round 7) and New To You readathon. I wasn’t expecting to read this much, but I’m glad about what a success this week has been. I read three full novels, one graphic novel, and one novella. That, is way more than what I usually read in a week, and I just feel like this past week brought a complete end to the horrid reading slump I was caught in, and has completely put me into a reading mood. Though I didn’t necessarily enjoy the books I read, I still had a good time this past week!

All these authors are new to me ( as in, I’ve never read their books before ) so all these books can be included in the New To You Readathon. As for Read-O-Rama, the challenges and their books are as follows :

The Salt House by Lisa Duffy

Read a book with water on the cover

This is an adult contemporary about a family dealing with grief over a tragic incident, and how they move past it and learn to build themselves a satisfactory life. It started out fine, but soon got extremely boring and nothing really special. (I was provided by an eARC for this by NetGalley). Check out my review here!

Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi

Read an own voice book

This is an absolutely astounding novel about two African half-sisters, separated by fate and generations after generations of those two sisters. The entire book is built of short stories, with each story focusing on a particular character and his life. This one is definitely my favorite book of 2017 so far. Review to be coming soon!

Blankets by Craig Thompson 

Read a graphic novel

This is my very first graphic novel and having heard so much hype about it, I started this book with really high expectations. Even though the graphics were brilliant, the story fell short. I did not like the characters, the discussions or the story arc. The writing was still good, poetic at times, but overall I did not like the novel.

We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Read a short book (150 pages or less)

Two words : extremely important.

When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon

Read a book released in the summer of any year

Read a book you’ve been anticipating

Read a book with RAMA in the title and/or author’s name

I was mighty offended by some things portrayed in the book : especially how the book portrayed all Indian moms to be marriage-crazy as if that it the whole point of their existence. I took meticulous notes, so my review is a little too detailed but I needed to write it. The story was fine, fun, but my dislike for YA contemporary still stands strong. Read my review here!

So these were all the books I read! I’m glad I got to these books this past week, since some of them have been on my TBR since quite long. I didn’t necessarily enjoy everything I read, but I loved the frenzy of reading so much in a week.
