Pros
I’m sorry. I honestly can’t find a single factor which could fit into the ‘pros’ category. If you know me, you probably know I adore Colleen Hoover, but I really, really regret reading this book. However, my opinions of CoHo do not change, I still do love her! It’s going to take more than this book for me to start disliking/hating her.
Cons
1. Abusive relationship : I haven’t read a lot of books dealing with abusive relationships, so I can’t say whether the one in this book was well executed or not. But I’ll tell you this – it made me really uncomfortable, disgusted and turned off, reading about the abusive relationship which lies in the centre of the book. I think there could’ve been better ways of tackling it – but the author didn’t manage to do that.
2. Way too much sex : I’m not completely against sex in books – if it blends well with the story and if it’s not forced or written just for the sake of it, a normal sex scene here and there is perfectly fine. But when it’s just forced and thrown in, without any necessity really, it gets on my nerves. This book had way too many senseless, unnecessary sensual scenes which just really irritated me.
3. Too short (less explanations) : This book was released free on Wattpad; something CoHo wrote for her fans. Which just makes me think that maybe she didn’t put as much effort into this as she does for her normal books? Because honestly, the book is way too short. It doesn’t provide necessary explanations or descriptions which could actually help add on to the story; instead it just focuses on sex and abuse. It doesn’t have any other issue/aspect to it and I was really disappointed with how so many things didn’t receive their well deserved explanations/justifications.
4. Weak characters : I did not like the characters, they didn’t have much depth or any dimension. Very unimpressed with the characters, and very unlike what CoHo usually pens down.
Recommend to?
No one, really. Even if you’re a CoHo fan, still you can give this a miss.
A ‘good book’ or a ‘good read’?
A really bad book.
Thanks for your review ! It is really helpful !

I tried to read this book and made it about two pages before I said no way. I love CoHo, but the abusive sex scene right from the first page was more than I could handle. I assumed it would only get worse and it sounds like it did. I’m so glad I didn’t continue after reading your review.

You did the right thing. Unfortunately for me, since it was a CoHo book, I couldn’t put it down, and kept on reading with the hope I have in her work.

I wonder why she chose something completely different from her normal for the free book. I was pretty bummed that it wasn’t the same caliber as her other books. That’s probably why the publisher didn’t mind her giving it away for free. I was so turned off by the sex scene in the beginning. I can’t imagine how much worse it probably got later on in the book. I would like to know why she needed to stay with him because of her brother. I almost want to read it just to find out.

I think because it’s a free book, she didn’t put a lot of thought or effort or heart into the book…I dunno, this was just so unlike the books she pens down. What’s even more surprising is that this book has 4. something rating on Goodreads…

No way! How could anyone give that book 4 stars? I’m really shocked. I give you a lot of credit for making it through that book. I did not have the stomach for the material.

Yes it really is more than a 4 >.< I was so shocked how people gave it a 5 stars!
And like I said, I read it only because I really love and trust CoHo. :)

I don’t blame you. I love her, too. I have such an attachment to her books. Did you pre-order It Ends With Us? I was tempted to order it, but then I thought I should wait until I see some reviews since it doesn’t come out until August.

It still isn’t available for pre-order in India. Plus, books release much later in India, so I don’t know when I’ll be able to get it.

Hopefully you’ll get the chance to read it before all of the reviews start pouring in.
