Reading Wrap Up (Random)

The last wrap up I did was in July, and after that I posted this  discussion/announcement on how I would stop doing TBRs and wrap ups and actually I’m super glad to say, that it has worked out!! My main motive with stopping to do these monthly posts (especially the wrap ups) was to reduce the pressure on my reading and this decision has actually helped a lot. I have felt less pressurised for reading, and also have been feeling less guilty for not being able to read as much.

However, I’ve read 13 more books since the last time I did a wrap up, so I thought I’d wrap these up and then do a final one at the end of the year :))

1) This Savage Song – Victoria Schwab : This was a great first-book in a series, and I loved the setting and the concept. I think Schwab’s writing was so amazing and the story as well as characterization was really good. The ending slightly feel flat for me, but the other aspects of the book completely made it up for me.

2) It Ends With Us – Colleen Hoover : This was one of the best books I read this year, and definitely my favorite CoHo book and my favorite NA book. The topics this book touched upon, and the way CoHo dealt with such topics was daring and marvellous. I highly, highly recommend picking up this book.

3) The Rest of Us Just Live Here – Patrick Ness : Sadly, I DNF’d this book. I had high hopes for this, but it was far too boring. I can read bad books till the end, but boring books? I cannot. The concept seemed so interesting to me yet I couldn’t get into the book in spite of listening to almost half of it.

4) Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Part I and II : I hugely disliked the book. I had major issues with almost every aspect of the book, and whereas I did feel a huge amount of nostalgia on seeing the characters again, I could very well read the original series again. I did not  need to read this and I just disliked it so much.

5) Kafka on the Shore – Haruki Murakami : I think Murakami’s writing and story-telling skills is magnificient, but this book disappointed me in its length. I feel that it could’ve been 100-150 pages shorter, and that would’ve worked perfectly with me. I loved the writing, the details, the magical realism aspect of the book but by the end, I got slightly bored and didn’t enjoy the last quarter of the book as much.

        

6) Six of Crows – Leigh Bardugo : This was fucking brilliant. It was fantasy of an absolutely new level, and I can’t believe I hadn’t read it for so long. I loved everything about this book, and cannot wait to get to Crooked Kingdom.

7) When She Was Bad – Tammy Cohen : This was a psychological thriller following the lives of a number of people working together in the same office and how we often don’t know the secrets underlying other people. It was thrilling, interesting read and I’m glad I picked it up!

8) A Forgotten Affair – Kanchana Banerjee : This is the first book I received as a physical ARC from a publisher – and I cannot thank HarperCollinsIndia enough for sending me this book. It was an interesting story, though not executed that well. Nevertheless, I’m glad I got to read it!

9) We Are the Ants – Shaun David Hutchinson : This was thankfully one of the better YA contemporaries I’ve read this year – an interesting twist in sci-fi and contemporary. It was extremely heart-felt and touching and a great, great read.

10) Listen – Sarah Doughty : This book was provided to me by the author and I’m glad that she could give this to me! This is the third book in the Earthen Witch series and is a paranormal story – it was an enjoyable read though definitely not the best paranormal I’ve read.

    

11) Wrecked – Maria Padian : This was an amazing story dealing with rape culture, and there were so many things in this books which intrigued me so much. I really appreciated this book, I think the story was well constructed and the way of writing was exceptional. Highly recommend!

12) Before We Visit the Goddess – Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni : This book was sensational story about three generations of women and follows their life stories, struggles, hardships and strengths. It was a beautiful book, and Banerjee’s writing is so so good.

13) Behold the Dreamers – Imbolo Mbue : This book was mind-blowing – abound with diversity, this book deals with an Cameroonian family who has migrated to America and try to sustain there.

So these were the thirteen books I read in the last two months, which is more than what I was expecting to read. Overall, I’d say I had a good reading time, and most of the books I read really stood out and were good reads.
